Waldeck, renowned for his electronic music infused with jazz, swing, and cinematic flair, announces his triumphant comeback with the new album, “The Moon and the Orient“, released via Dope Noir Records.

A musician with a PhD in law, Waldeck emerged in the late ‘90s alongside luminaries like Kruder & Dorfmeister, playing a pivotal role in propelling Viennese electronic music to global prominence. His seminal album, “Ballroom Stories”, remains a touchstone in dance music circles worldwide.

After gaining recognition through SONY and making waves in nightclubs, radio, and advertising, Waldeck founded Dope Noir Records in 2001, establishing himself as a visionary in the music industry.

“The Moon and the Orient”, Waldeck’s seventh studio album, is a homage to genies and Scheherazade, enveloping listeners in an aura of mystery, wonder, and intrigue with its oriental ambiance. Each track is meticulously crafted to evoke emotions of longing and exoticism, woven into elegant arrangements that resonate with his signature style.

In contrast to previous works, which leaned heavily on organic instrumentation, “The Moon and the Orient” incorporates more electronic elements while maintaining its sophisticated allure. The album pulses with rhythms that rise like cobras from their baskets, keeping tension high and emotions simmering beneath the surface.

Waldeck explains, “These tracks represent the best of what I’ve always wanted to release but never found the right moment for.” This collection is a culmination of his artistic evolution, showcasing a blend of downtempo vibes, dub influences, and trip-hop aesthetics that define the ‘Vienna sound’.

The album’s concept revolves around the idea that genies are never truly free, bound to serve their liberators for at least 1001 nights. Collaborations with drag performers Lucy McEvil and Zeebee, alongside longtime musical partner Patrizia Ferrara’s enchanting vocals, enrich the album’s narrative and sonic landscape.

With “The Moon and the Orient”, Waldeck demonstrates his versatility as an artist, weaving a tapestry of emotive realism, poetic lyricism, and enchanting melodies. Each track unfolds like a chapter in a masterful tale, blending tragedy with serenity to create a 12-track opus that captivates from start to finish.

Reflecting on the album’s theme, Waldeck shares, “The Orient is a realm of stories and imagination. I’m drawn to the concept of genies as embodiments of the cautionary tale, ‘be careful what you wish for’.”

“The Moon and the Orient” leaves an indelible mark on listeners with its evocative vocals and thoughtful compositions, offering a sonically diverse journey that transcends musical boundaries and lingers in the mind long after the final notes fade.
