Worcester Indie-folk singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Josh Northwood returns with the affecting new single “Paradise” taken from an upcoming new album due later this year. Renowned for his cinematic soundscapes which bring together elements of folk and alt-rock, the solo artist has built a reputation as an exciting up-and-coming talent.
Immersive and dreamlike, the new single “Paradise” is gentle and understated, possessing an effortless emotional impact and depth. A backdrop of wide textural cinematic atmospherics surround a pillowy kick, layers of reverb drenched piano, grounding bass and tremolo tinted guitar lines creating a stunning, otherworldly soundscape. Josh’s angelic, haunting, note-perfect vocals floats among the music displaying his silky falsetto as muted harmonies dance from side to side.
Akin to the likes of Bon Iver, Ben Howard and the more gentle moments of Nothing But Thieves, the track’s melancholic feel, honest yet poetic lyricism and musical beauty take centre stage. Talking about the meaning behind the single, Josh explains: “This track is about how fleeting life is – and how important it is to be present in between the beauty and the pain. I want to be here for it all with my loved ones and with the things I’m most passionate about.”
Having already gained support from the likes of BBC Introducing, gained over 200k streams on Spotify alone and played shows across the UK, Josh Northwood is now looking to take his career and his music to the next level. The new single “Paradise” is released August 20th.
