Emma Wharton, indie/pop/rock singer-songwriter from the Wirral, has a new, emotion-evoking video, dropping June 19, 2025, that was created in memory of those lost to suicide. It’s also a pathway to her journey of healing through music.
While Emma learned guitar only a couple of years ago, she has already had an array of musical experiences. At the age of 14, she began singing, and by 16 was stepping on stage for her first open mic night. “Music became a passion that grew with me, and when I turned 21, my partner gifted me a guitar. Although I didn’t know how to play at the time, we would spend countless hours together, singing as he strummed the chords”, says Emma.
Tragically, in 2020, her partner passed away by suicide, just as the world was grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic. “He was an incredible person, and his absence left a profound void in my life. The world felt so dark, and I struggled to find my purpose without him. I found myself longing for the harmonies we created together, for the sound of his guitar accompanying my voice.”
After this unimaginable loss, Emma was determined to reconnect with the bond she had with her partner, picked up the guitar, despite her inability to strum a single chord, and made it her mission to learn the songs they both cherished. One of those songs being, “Dream Catch Me”, by Newton Faulkner. “From that moment on, I dedicated myself to practicing every day until I could finally play it. Each time I sang it, I felt a connection to him, a way to feel close again.”
Through this experience, Emma wrote, “Slipped Away.” The song came to her in about ten minutes, like many of her compositions do, fueled by raw emotions. “It was the first song I wrote that included chords, and it deeply reflected my feelings of loss. I wanted to create something that would resonate with others who have endured dark times or lost loved ones.”
Emma went on to study music in college and has performed as a duo and frontwoman in a band, featured on a number of local radio stations and is now performing as a solo artist. She also spends her time hosting regular open mic nights, and volunteering as entertainment manager for a local venue as well as raising funds for charities.
Emma released her first single, “Slipped Away” on February 28, 2025, with Guns N’ Roses founder and first manager Vicky Hamilton’s record label, Dark Spark Music.
