Headies Awards to Return to Nigeria for Upcoming Edition: The upcoming edition of the Headies Awards will mark the return of the event to its home country after successfully hosting in the United States in 2022 and 2023. This decision was made to fulfill the desire of bringing the award show back to Nigeria. The Headies, a music awards show created in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria, aims to recognize exceptional accomplishments in the Nigerian music industry.
Each year, the ceremony showcases performances by both established and up-and-coming artists. The 16th edition of the Headies Awards was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, U.S., and featured a remarkable line-up of top Nigerian artists and notable figures from the music and entertainment industry. The Headies announced on their official Instagram page that, “In recent years, Afrobeats has exploded beyond our borders and expectations, serving as both a genre of music and a cultural movement. Our songs have garnered billions of streams and topped charts worldwide.
Our music has become the soundtrack for countless online videos. Our stars have sold out the largest arenas, while African collaborations achieve incredible numbers.” In light of this global success, The Headies has chosen to honor this explosion by hosting the 2022 and 2023 editions in the US. This provided an opportunity for the world to witness our international stars and up-and-coming talents.
Now, in 2024, we are bringing The Headies back to its place of origin, the birthplace of the sound that has captivated the world, produced viral videos, and placed our continent at the forefront of global pop culture. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for The Headies’ return to its roots. More details will be announced soon.
