Gray – ‘Blue In Her Bones’

Gray – ‘Blue In Her Bones’ – Singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist GRAY pulls at the heartstrings in the poetic new offering ‘Blue In Her Bones’. Taken from his forthcoming debut album, released the same day, ‘In The Absence of Colour’ showcases a powerful artist with layers of character. GRAY won an honourable mention in the International Songwriting Competition with his debut single, ‘Something Warmer’, competing against the last (predominantly signed) 1% of 26,000 entrants. Receiving praise from BBC Introducing in Suffolk, GRAY’s previous single ‘Another Life’ was championed as ‘Track of the Week’ back in March. At the time of writing, the singles released from his forthcoming album have reached over 300,000 streams, and 7,000 personal Spotify playlists.

Speaking about the enchanting new release ‘Blue In Her Bones’, GRAY shares, ‘Blue In Her Bones’ is the most exposed track on the album, with only my voice and a spellbinding piano performance from my mate Steve Dear, which we recorded in a weekend session a few months ago. I never intended to lead with it, but after witnessing the cutting, visceral emotional reaction it aroused in some folks, I thought it must be the right one.

The music you feel is most likely to help someone through something will always be the right choice to push the hardest. I think everyone knows someone who this song could be written about or for. For me it was a woman very close to me. It’s about remembering that depression can morph someone you love beyond recognition; but they’re still the same person, worth standing by and fighting for. If you weather the changes, and show them love through it, the sadness may just lose its grip on them and the real person within will return.”

“Blue In Her Bones” is a timeless offering that showcases GRAY could easily be in the same vein as artists such as Sam Smith, James Blake and Adele. Best described as effortlessly cinematic, this would be the perfect backdrop for a heartbreaking scene in one of your favourite blockbusters. Gripping your attention from the get-go, the emotive pop number is powered by one extraordinary voice.

A strong advocate for mental health and veganism, GRAY is the type of artist you’d be proud to follow and look up to. Speaking about his love for music, GRAY shares, “Music is a reason to live, a life-line for many people, a global language, unifier and generally just makes life sweeter and more relatable. I have historically been a bit of a lone-wolf with regard to creating. I believe in collaboration when your hearts are aligned, but creating soulless music in a too-many-cooks and no shared vision/purpose scenario is my nightmare – I truly believe that chucking out cash-grabbing, hook only songs that could have been generated by an algorithm is a crime against humanity”.
