Raised in an international community in Beijing, ASH’s musical journey began alongside a traditional academic path. A classically trained pianist from the age of four, she later taught herself guitar, bass, and drums during her teenage years, performing whenever she could. Balancing her passion for music with academic excellence, ASH attended the prestigious University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate studies, where her love for the performing arts continued to grow, starring in sold-out live shows each semester.
After earning a scholarship from The New School in New York City to pursue her Master’s in Music, ASH honed her craft, writing, producing, and perfecting her debut project. The demo for “Holding Water” caught the attention of Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer Jeff Ellis (renowned for his work with Frank Ocean, Doja Cat, and Kali Uchis), who mixed the forthcoming EP.
“Reverse Psychology” is an unflinchingly honest exploration of the complexities of a relationship unraveling. In this striking second single, ASH captures the desperation of trying to hold on to something that’s beyond repair. Her poignant vocals, combined with delicate guitar lines and an entrancing beat, evoke the raw emotions of hopelessness. The song delves into the corrosive effects of emotional manipulation by a loved one, leaving behind a haunting sense of defeat.
ASH’s music is a bold declaration of her artistic vision, and with “Reverse Psychology,” she is poised to make a lasting impact on the contemporary music landscape.
