Hertfordshire up and coming UK pop artist Ed Staal is back with his new single ‘Baby Blue’ taken from the upcoming EP Battle Scars & Broken Hearts. Self-recorded and produced, the 24-year-old’s unique style fuses elements of old school Justin Timberlake with hints of John Mayer and a 70’s soul to create a striking alt-pop-come-indie sound.
Effortlessly cool, catchy and vibey, ‘Baby Blue’ captures a warming vintage feel over its bopping beat and bass line. Swelling organs, splashes of guitar and subtle synths underpin Ed’s silky, note-perfect and effortlessly charismatic vocal delivery as he emotively treads through a broken relationship.
Talking about the single Ed adds: “The track is about looking back on a past relationship with hindsight and seeing how immature myself and the actual relationship became. Touching on how meeting new people has felt meaningless since the end of us.”
Building on regular support from BBC Introducing and radio play from BBC Radio 1, Ed has gained a whole host of tastemaker press coverage as well as over 150,000 streams on Spotify alone and has now found himself amongst a talented team of creators in ‘Syndicate Management’. Working with this team, Ed has curated his greatest works yet in the form of an upcoming EP in collaboration with artist/producer Dom Porter. Having already built a reputation as an exciting young artist, the new EP will surely see Ed Staal soar to new heights.
