Can you tell us about your journey as an indie musician? What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
My journey as an indie musician has been going very smoothly. I love the daily “What am I doing today?” Could be writing a song, or recording, or discussing the artwork for the cd cover. It’s all such fun for me. I’ve always been inspired to pursue a career in music. I had great success when I was in my twenties but my life had to go a different direction for many years due to my health. I am now healthy and having a second chance at it!
Could you share some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an indie musician and how you overcame them?
I haven’t experienced any big challenges so far in my journey. I suppose when I need to write a song there may be a little pressure to do so or when I go to record I hope my voice will behave! I take it all from moment to moment and always take a deep breath.
What is your creative process like? How do you approach songwriting and composing music?
My creative process always comes from what inspires me, what talks to me. I approach songwriting with honesty. What is coming from my heart. Telling the story or expressing the feelings inside. The composing comes from the heart as well. How do I feel about what I am saying. The melody will flow with the emotion felt and what the words are saying. When Michael B. Sutton and I write together he will sometimes give me a groove or a melody and more often than not my lyric will come from my just listening to his music.
Are there any particular themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music? What inspires your lyrics?
Of course. There is always a theme or message that I try to convey through my music. As I said prior, my lyric is always inspired by the story being told, the emotions I feel. Also the music will sometimes just dictate to me what needs to be said.
What are your long term goals as an indie musician? Where do you see yourself and your music in the next few years?
Hmmm… My long term goals as an indie musician is to keep writing and singing as long as the universe allows! I see myself as successful, sharing my music with the world. Hopefully always giving a positive edge, sometimes a healing message or just plain fun to dance your little bum off!!
