Despite the Big Freeze, Londoners turned out in droves to witness global superstar Davido’s record-breaking run at North Greenwich on Sunday evening. The atmosphere at the O2 Arena was electric even before the show began, with a palpable buzz filling the air.
As the performance kicked off, Davido descended from a suspended bed against the backdrop of a resplendent, timeless shop. Singing his first notes, he treated fans to renditions of classics like ‘Dami Duro’, ‘Skelewu’, and ‘Aye’, with The Compozers live arrangement adding an extra layer to the experience.
An outfit change marked the next segment, as Davido returned to the stage in a traditional burgundy ensemble for ‘NA MONEY,’ featuring a legendary appearance by Angelique Kidjo. Special guest Logos Olori’s performance of ‘PICASSO’ and ‘NO COMPETITION’ set the stage for Afrobeats riser Morravey’s vibrant set, where she charmed the audience with ‘IN THE GARDEN’ and ‘MAGICIAN’.
The energy reached fever pitch as Davido showcased feel-good dance moments like ‘Risky’ and welcomed Kizz Daniel to the stage. Moving with agility, Davido ascended on a platform mid-arena for hit singles ‘If’, ‘Fall’, and ‘FIA’. He stunned fans by teleporting to the seated section for a gospel moment during ‘FIA’, while new age favorites like ‘Sensational’ heated up the stage, accompanied by artificial flames.
With many acts signed to Davido’s label DMW, the night felt like a family affair, showcasing the most talented cousins in the industry. Davido’s cross-genre flair and glimmering moments of Nigerian culture were evident throughout the show. Despite leaving the stage several times, the evening maintained a celebratory atmosphere, highlighting Davido’s longevity, communal reach, and his position as one of the “Big Three” in the music scene. The grand finale, featuring GRAMMY-nominated tracks ‘FEEL’ and ‘UNAVAILABLE’, with Musa Keys joining for the technicolour finish, left the audience in awe of this unforgettable night.
