As Kristina Menissov captivates audiences with live performances throughout Fashion Weeks in Los Angeles, her latest single, “Hands”, marks a new chapter in her musical journey. Fresh off a performance at the Global Asian Moonfest at the Autry Museum, Kristina opens up about the inspiration behind her new track, the creative process that keeps her artistry evolving, and the importance of vulnerability and authenticity in her music.
In this exclusive Q&A, Kristina shares insight into her dynamic approach to genre-blending and offers advice for aspiring artists navigating their own paths.
Tell us about your newest single “Hands” and what the inspiration is behind this song.
“Hands” is about the intricate balance between vulnerability and strength. It’s a personal song for me because it captures how, even when we’re confident and sure of ourselves, there’s still a part of us that craves connection. The title refers to that feeling of physical connection. I wanted to convey how empowering it can be to acknowledge that we can be both strong and vulnerable at the same time. It’s a blend of self-confidence and the desire to reach out and connect with someone you love.
You’ve had the opportunity to work on multiple projects with Andrew Lane. What is it about your collaboration with him that keeps bringing you back to work together?
An exclusive contract, haha…
All jokes aside, Andrew is an incredible musician, and composer, and he really knows how to bring out the best in me. He understands my sound and my vision, but he also pushes me to explore new creative spaces. Working with him on “Hands” was another one of those experiences where he and my vocal coach Denis Suvorov helped me dig deeper into the emotions and the story I wanted to tell.
We’ve built a great dynamic where they trust my instincts, but gently guide me towards what’s popular right now. I always know that when we work together, something magical will come out of it. That creative synergy is hard to find, so it keeps all of his artists coming back to him to create more.
With “Hands” now available on all streaming platforms, what are your plans for promoting the single, and can we expect a music video to accompany it?
I’m really excited about the release of “Hands” and I already love how people are receiving it. First off, it’s already in the movie “Dance Rivals” which definitely helps and I am excited about this important milestone! I am doing live performances during the whole month October at Fashion Weeks in Los Angeles and engaging with my fans through social media.
You’ve released numerous singles across different genres. How do you stay creatively inspired, and are there any new genres or themes you’re excited to explore in the future?
Staying creatively inspired comes from constantly challenging myself and being open to new experiences. I’ve always loved experimenting with different sounds and genres because music is such a versatile medium for storytelling. Right now, I’m excited about exploring more electronic and dance-inspired sounds, but I’m also drawn to soulful ballads that showcase raw emotion. I think music, like life, is always evolving, so I try to stay fluid and follow where the inspiration takes me.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are learning to embrace their own vulnerability and self-confidence through music?
My biggest piece of advice is to be authentic. Vulnerability is where true artistry lives, but it’s also where we sometimes feel the most exposed. Learning to embrace that is a process which doesn’t happen overnight. My best advice is to be patient with yourself, and don’t be afraid to express those raw, real emotions. Self-confidence comes from trusting your voice, your journey, and knowing that what you have to say through your music is valid. And most importantly, remember that your vulnerability is your strength.
