Manchester-based vocalist and composer Jamie Irrepressible, with his seven-piece band The Irrepressibles, released one more haunting melody, ‘Will I Ever Find a Home?’ via Of Naked Design on the 23rd of November. The single follows the release of his latest EP, Self Love & Acceptance. Originally from Yorkshire, Jamie started The Irrepressibles back in 2002. Since gathering his live band and after releasing three critically acclaimed studio albums, The Irrepressibles’ genre-bending offerings have accumulated over three billion streams.
His unique, cathartically orchestral pop, married with lush arrangements, has cemented Jamie as one of Britain’s most talented musicians. Not to forget his myriad collaborations with exciting electronic artists like Røyksopp, Rex The Dog, and Ionalee.
The Irrepressibles performed their recent EP, Self Love & Acceptance, to sold-out shows on an intimate tour of the UK’s most beautiful churches and concert halls, including St Mark’s in Edinburgh, London’s St Luke’s, and Oxford’s St Barnabas’.
The new track ‘Will I Ever Find a Home?’ immerses the listener in a touching ode to alienation. Straying from sanitised notions of expression, The Irrepressibles stay true to their name by eschewing hollow affectations. As an introspective piece, it seems relegated to despair but soon reveals itself to be pointedly sanguine.
Now moving on to a new direction, ‘Will I Ever Find a Home?’ signals the end of the pop savant’s chamber pop mainstay. With a mournful refrain that rises to meet the languid piano motif, The Irrepressibles’ new single serenades the sorrows of isolation. Jamie’s voice threatens to crack but never wavers, grieving an intangible loss.
‘Will I Ever Find a Home?’ follows the release of The Irrepressibles’ intimate instrumental piece written in the wake of the passing of Jamie’s beloved cousin, Martin Williams. ‘For Martin’ is available to stream on the IR Symphonic Spotify playlist on 22 November. All music written by Jamie Irrepressible (FKA Jamie McDermont).
Speaking on the intimate subject matter of the new release, Jamie Irrepressible said, “’Will I Ever Find A Home?’ expresses the longing to find that someone as a gay man or queer person in these times of fleeting affairs and commercialism where the sense of home with someone to love becomes all too elusive.”
