Can you tell us about your journey as an indie musician? What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Music, as they say, is a universal communication. No matter what language you speak, when you sing a song or play a piece of music, we all understand the sentiment and the communication. Music touches us beyond the mind, it touches our feelings, our memories, and lands in our souls. That connection is what inspired me to pursue a career in music.
How would you describe your unique style and sound as an artist? What sets you apart from other musicians?
I’m called a soul-jazz singer. Because I sing with great emotion and I am rhythmically creative with my phrasing. I communicate emotionally. My style is smooth, sensual, and soulful.
Could you share some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an indie musician and how you overcame them?
Independent artist takes on many jobs to get their music heard. Either live performance or radio play… or even getting your music recorded. It takes a lot of work. It can be challenging, even daunting, to find the resources to get from your musical ideas to get your music heard and build a following. It helps to have support, fans, agents, managers, and a team to get your music out there. And it costs a lot of money to do this. How do I overcome this challenge? I just keep at it. Share my music with people I think will be inspired to help get my voice out there.
What is your creative process like? How do you approach songwriting and composing music?
I’m a lyricist, primarily. I keep a notebook. And as I’m moving through my day song titles or lyric lines move through my mind and I write them down. Sometimes they inspire an entire song. Other times, they are just words in my notebook that I revisit from time to time.
Are there any particular themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music? What inspires your lyrics?
Nature inspires me. Love inspires me. Frustration inspires me. My music is about the heart. Our passion, our pain, and pleasures…
What are your long-term goals as an indie musician? Where do you see yourself and your music in the next few years?
To keep performing, recording, and sharing my music in fruitful and creative ways. In 5 years, I see myself having my music placed in motion pictures, playing large venues like the Hollywood Bowl, and collaborating with great world artists on their projects as well as mine. I have a saying: “Have a voice, will travel!” I’d like to travel the world making music.
