Loic J Tuckey’s latest creative endeavors showcase a profound connection to the American West, reflecting its spirit through both his music and writing. His debut album, Beyond The Sun Road, is a sonic exploration of the golden age of American road trips, blending elements of Americana, alternative rock, blues, folk, and ambient lounge jazz. The 12 tracks weave together a rich array of influences, from mid-20th century rock and R&B to surf, swampy blues, and psychedelia, brought to life by Tuckey’s twangy guitar and versatile voice, which carries traditional blues tones with clean, gentle, and gruff nuances.
The creation of Beyond The Sun Road was an immersive and authentic experience. Much of the album was conceived while Tuckey traveled the American highways, with lyrics scrawled on diner napkins and melodies recorded on his phone in various motel rooms. This organic approach captures the essence of the American road trip, translating fleeting moments and vivid scenes into musical snapshots. The titular track embodies this journey, featuring relentless driving drums and gritty guitar lines that symbolize the endless road. The lyrics reflect Tuckey’s real-life experiences, preserving the visual and conversational fragments that linger long after the journey ends.
