Rising star Jay Estrada is set to drop his latest single, Betrayed, on the 8th of June, 2025, a vibrant blend of Afrobeat, Afro Soul, and Afro Pop that’s bound to captivate listeners. This deeply personal track draws from a fleeting yet unforgettable moment in Estrada’s life, transforming a chance encounter into a soulful anthem of love, longing, and unreciprocated energy.
Inspired by a striking woman he spotted at a Florida mall during his time living in the Sunshine State, Betrayed took shape over a two-year writing process. Estrada, who only began crafting music in 2021, dug deep into his memories to recreate the emotions of that day. The result is a track full of heartfelt vulnerability, paired with an instrumental from collaborator Zena. Recorded at Atlanta’s renowned Bravo Ocean Studios, the process was a leap for Estrada, who stepped into a major studio for the first time. Despite initial nerves, guidance from the sound engineer helped him fine-tune the track, making Betrayed a true solo endeavor where he penned the lyrics and sourced the instrumental himself. The song reflects the ache of giving your all to someone who doesn’t match your energy, a feeling Estrada channels into every note.
Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Jay Estrada grew up immersed in old-school R&B, soul, and rap, sounds that became his refuge from life’s highs and lows starting at age 7. After moving to Florida in 2017, his passion for music deepened, leading him to write his first song, City Girl, over an Afrobeat in 2021. That track sparked a creative evolution, with Estrada honing a unique flow and lyrical style influenced by Afrobeat, Afro Soul, and Afro Pop. His music, deeply rooted in personal experiences, especially from his Florida years, aims to connect with listeners on a profound level. Inspired by Rod Wave’s poignant lyric, “Tell me who can you trust when people so deceiving”, from the song Losing My Cool, Estrada is carving out a fresh rap style that’s soulful and relatable.
