Liverpool singer-songwriter Craig Cavanagh releases his first new music in over a decade with 13 Summers Later, charting everything that has happened in his life since his 2013 debut, Green Eyed Soul. Blending pop, reggae, dancehall, soul and live instrumentation, the EP explores love, loss and the process of finding oneself again, turning personal growth and grief into songs designed to feel universal.
The opening track, Autumn XIII–XVI Interlude, reflects on the years since his last release, including the illness and death of his father from cancer in 2016, and closes with a genuine voicemail message his father once left him. The closing track, Outside In, stages an internal battle between three versions of the same person before building unexpectedly into a gospel-inspired, spiritual finale symbolising hope and healing.
The EP was recorded in Liverpool with producer Lucy McQuillan and co-producer Mikey Fell. Craig does not play an instrument, so every song begins as melodies in his head before being shaped in the studio.
Speaking about his return, Craig said: “Coming back after thirteen years was daunting. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created. If there’s one thing I hope people take away from 13 Summers Later, it’s that creativity never dies. Dreams don’t have an expiry date, and sometimes the best chapters take thirteen summers to write.”
Craig Cavanagh is a Liverpool-based singer-songwriter known for blending honesty with storytelling. Inspired as a child by Mariah Carey, he began writing poetry before turning to songwriting, releasing his debut EP, Green Eyed Soul, independently in 2013 and performing to thousands at Liverpool Pride the same year.
After stepping away from releasing music, he returned in 2023 with a Tommy MC remix of Bring You Back to Life, which received UK radio airplay and was played at O Beach Ibiza. Thirteen years on from his debut, he now returns with 13 Summers Later, continuing his aim of creating honest music that reminds listeners they are never alone in what they feel.
