Modest Brings Grit, Perspective and Real Hip-Hop Energy to Deep Thoughts, Vol. 2

There is a lot of music competing for attention right now, but Deep Thoughts, Vol. 2 by Modest stands out for a simpler reason: it sounds like an artist who has something to say and is comfortable saying it in his own voice.

The six-track EP brings together “Night Out,” “Tomorrows Not Promised,” “Paradise Mindset” featuring M.C.C.B., “Whatchu Say (Poison),” “My Intervention,” and “Bundles (Freestyle)” in a concise project that moves between confidence, reflection, ambition and raw lyrical expression. Rather than trying to make every moment feel oversized, Modest lets his writing and delivery carry the weight.

There is an unmistakable hunger in his voice. He raps with the kind of confidence that comes from putting real time into the craft, but there is enough restraint in his delivery to keep the performances from feeling forced. His punchlines land naturally, his cadence sits comfortably inside the production, and there is a storyteller’s quality to the way he approaches his verses.

That balance is important because Deep Thoughts, Vol. 2 is not simply about showing how well Modest can rap. The project gives us glimpses into the mindset behind the artist. “Tomorrows Not Promised” carries a reminder to appreciate the present, while “Paradise Mindset” brings a more uplifting perspective into the project. “Whatchu Say (Poison)” adds a sharper, more confrontational edge, and “My Intervention” turns the attention inward. By the time “Bundles (Freestyle)” arrives, Modest is able to strip things back and let his natural flow do the talking.

Even “Night Out,” which provides an immediate entry into the project, fits into that wider picture. There is a sense throughout the EP that Modest is drawing from different sides of his personality rather than trying to present one carefully polished version of himself.

There is grit here, but it is matched by thoughtfulness. There is confidence, but it does not come across as empty bravado. Most importantly, Modest sounds genuinely invested in what he is doing. He is not chasing a complicated concept for the sake of it. He is rapping, reflecting, telling stories and allowing the listener to take something different from each track.

The six-song format works particularly well. At around 17 minutes, Deep Thoughts, Vol. 2 is easy to take in from beginning to end, but it leaves enough behind to make another listen worthwhile. Nothing feels unnecessarily stretched, and the project maintains its momentum without sacrificing its personality.

What comes through most clearly is Modest’s respect for the fundamentals of hip-hop. Strong verses still matter. Delivery still matters. Personality still matters. A rapper being able to make you stop and listen still matters.

Deep Thoughts, Vol. 2 is ultimately a confident snapshot of where Modest is creatively. It is raw without sounding unfinished, polished without losing its character, and reflective without becoming overly serious.

There is no unnecessary noise around it. Just Modest, his voice, his perspective and the craft he has clearly put into developing both. And sometimes, that is more than enough.
