Northern Irish-born, Leeds-based singer-songwriter Lucy Robinson returns with her uplifting new single, “Let Down,” a vibrant alt-pop track that serves as both an escape from everyday pressures and a reminder that it’s okay to slow down. Blending dreamy pop with touches of gritty rock, soul, funk, and electronica, the song pairs infectious grooves with a timely message about finding balance in an increasingly fast-paced world.

Co-written by Robinson and producer Matt Weir, “Let Down“ was inspired by the constant pressure to be productive. While social media is filled with messages encouraging people to hustle harder and do more, Robinson wanted to write a song that challenges that mindset.

“I don’t know what algorithm I’m on, but I feel like I’m constantly seeing videos of people trying to fit a million things into every day,” she says. “It used to inspire me, but now I’m trying to undo the pressure that’s created. Phrases like ‘Eat. Sleep. Hustle. Repeat.’ and ‘No days off’ have become unhealthy expectations. We aren’t meant to live like that.”

That message resonates throughout “Let Down.” Beneath its upbeat rhythm and feel-good energy lies a thoughtful reflection on burnout, self-care, and the importance of stepping away from unrealistic expectations. Rather than promoting endless productivity, the song celebrates taking a breath, embracing downtime, and giving yourself permission to simply exist.

For Robinson, the message is deeply personal. As an independent artist, she wears many hats, balancing life as a performer, songwriter, manager, marketer, booking agent, and creative director. Through those experiences, she has come to realize that success isn’t just about working harder.

“Hustle doesn’t equal sustainability,” she explains. “I’m learning that taking care of yourself is just as important as pushing forward.”

Musically, “Let Down” shines thanks to an outstanding group of collaborators. Robinson’s soulful vocals and expressive guitar work are supported by Matt Weir’s polished production and dynamic drumming, grooving bass from Si Frances, rich backing vocals by Abbey Peacock and Holly Mullahy, and the unmistakable Hammond organ of John McCullough, best known for his work with Van Morrison. Together, they create a warm, energetic sound filled with catchy hooks, vibrant harmonies, and irresistible funk-inspired rhythms.

Lucy Robinson has steadily established herself as one of the UK’s most exciting independent artists. Her growing list of achievements includes winning the Ed Sheeran and Lowden Guitars “Take The Stage” competition, which led to a special performance for Prince William at Dubai Expo. She also won Beat-Herder’s Got Talent in 2024, earning a Main Stage performance before returning to the festival in 2025 for another standout appearance.

Her rising profile has continued with recognition from Crash Records, which named her “The Next Big Thing,” while Hot Press Magazine described her as “a serious one-to-watch.” In 2025, she was selected to perform at Belfast’s prestigious Output Festival & Showcase, highlighting her as one of Northern Ireland’s most promising emerging artists. A BBC Introducing Live Session and interview further showcased her growing reputation.

Robinson’s live résumé continues to expand, with a sold-out headline show at Oporto in Leeds in April 2026, alongside performances at Live At Leeds, Beat-Herder Festival, Independent Venue Week, and support slots with artists including Morgan Harper-Jones, Rebecca Vasmant, Graeme James, Gareth Dunlop, Nathan Carter, and Stephen Macartney.

Away from the stage, Robinson has also led songwriting workshops internationally, including facilitating a session for 80 Google managers during the company’s Global Managers’ Summit at Google’s New York headquarters.

With support from outlets including BBC Introducing Leeds, BBC Radio Ulster, RTÉ, Amazing Radio, Toronto88, and FLUX FM Berlin, Lucy Robinson continues to build impressive momentum. “Let Down” is another confident step forward, delivering an uplifting reminder that sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is slow down and simply enjoy the moment.
