Dublin quartet Runner release the vibrant debut single, ‘View’ (12th Jan). Blending elements of nostalgic indie-rock with a driving raw edge, the debut single showcases Runner’s ability to weave intricate yet direct instrumentation with emotional depth. Drawing inspiration from legendary ’70s rock icons like Rush and Pink Floyd, paired with the gritty edge of ’90s trailblazers Nirvana and Radiohead, ‘View’ offers listeners a fresh yet familiar sonic journey.
Capturing the band’s introspective style with biting soaring guitar riffs and evocative lyricism, the track is as comparable to Fontaines DC as it is the likes of The Vaccines. Thematically, the track delves into the contradictions of modern life—digital isolation versus human connection—encouraging listeners to reflect on their place in an increasingly complex world.
Speaking about the single, the band shared: “‘View’ is about dualities—the tension between digital isolation and human connection, between the fast-paced and the reflective. Recording this album was a cathartic experience for us, and we hope listeners find a part of themselves in our music.”
Showcasing a strikingly complete sound despite being the band’s debut, Runner have already made a name for themselves as a live band. Capturing the energy and urgency of their live shows on record, the debut single ‘View’ sets the tone for more music to come from the trio.
