Suffolk-based alternative-hardcore & punk 5-piece FLEAS announce the debut album Imagine If There Was More and share the explosive first single ‘theywatchmebreak’
Having built a reputation for the raucous, energetic and resounding live shows, FLEAS have already established themselves as one to watch, sharing lineups with the likes of Dingus Khan, The Meffs, Skating Polly, Gaffa Tape Sandy and Pet Needs.
Offering a first taste of their highly anticipated debut album, Imagine If There Was More, set to drop on 28th February 2025, ‘theywachmebreak’ highlights the intense, urgent and angsty sound which characterises FLEAS music.
Produced by Suffolk based Alec Jarman, the single blends a raw and expressive punk energy with a hardcore intensity. Opening with a grinding, swirling main guitar riff, the track soon bursts into its explosive chorus with punching drums, thick bass and the barked, visceral lead vocals joining the now intense and upfront wall of distorted guitars. Stripping to bass and drums through the verse, the vocals drop to a spoken word before building back up to the expressive screamo and punching tightly locked, jerky guitars and drums that pull the track back to the expressive and climactic final chorus.
Speaking about the new single and the upcoming album:
“This is our best work yet. We have worked tirelessly to bring about a new era of Fleas, fusing genres and styles of instrumentation to keep the original alt-punk vibe with a significant boost in the hardcore elements.
The album ranges in topics, from mental health, to today’s social climate, and experiences with love and protecting those closest to us.
It was recorded in a very DIY set up, mostly in bedrooms and rehearsal spaces, captured by the wildly talented Alec Jarman; he was instrumental in bringing our vision to life.”
Since forming in 2018, FLEAS have been building a reputation for their raw, high-energy performances and genre-defying sound. Having gained heavy support from BBC Introducing and won awards (NMG Awards: Best Rock Act), the band have also gained a flurry of tastemaker coverage including Backseat Mafia, Iggy Magazine and A&R Factory.
