Brighton quartet Nature TV announce their hotly anticipated debut album ‘Unlucky for Some’ and share radiant new single ‘One Step Forward’(January 15th) via indie heavyweights Heist or Hit (Her’s / Two Blinks, I Love You / Brad Stank). Building a reputation for their warming alternative-indie sound which overflows with sparkling melody and wistful melancholy, the single comes ahead of the band’s sold out US tour and appearance at SXSW 2025.
Produced by longtime collaborator Solo Major, ‘One Step Forward’ begins with a bouncing, intricate bassline that lays the groundwork for the floating groove of the track. Layers of modulated, fuzz-tinged guitar tones weave over crisp, tightly executed drums, creating a sonic palette that feels both fresh and vibrant while evoking a vintage charm through its tight analog-inspired production.
Topped with laid-back, melancholic vocals which add a soulful depth, blending heartfelt lyricism with understated delivery, well placed harmonies further enhance the beauty of the melodies. Subtle yet immersive, floating yet impactful, the track is a brilliant example of Nature TV’s feel for balance.
Talking about the single, vocalist Guy explains: “This is an example of sweet treats with a sour core. All those times in life when you think you’re making progress. Climbing to the top of that mountain just to discover a higher peak. A real vinegar in your sugar moment.”
The track is accompanied with the new video featuring BAFTA award-winning comedian Alex Horne (Taskmaster) which plays on the bands vintage charm with a tongue-in-cheek Top Of The Pops performance WATCH HERE.
Talking about the video shoot, Alex Horne explained: “I’d never been in a music video before so I said yes instantly. I have a pretty big ego and also Nature TV sent me a nice t-shirt so it ticked all the boxes. I loved Top of the Pops as a kid, it was unmissable Thursday evening viewing – It turns out some of the hosts weren’t necessarily ideal but I’m still glad I’ve now got footage of me presenting the show. That’s another ambition ticked off. Next I’ve got to score a freekick for Liverpool.
The shoot was everything I thought it might be. I was given a can of coca cola, I got to listen to the single several times in a row while watching the band play along to the single and nod their heads and look cool. I got to hang out with the band. I was basically in the band. It was a good day. Also, I bought a new jumper on my way to the station after.
It was actually pretty similar to shooting Taskmaster. The crew were small and nimble. We moved fast and changed things on the fly. We had snacks.”
Continuing about the video, bass player Josh adds: “Making the video for One Step Forward was an absolute dream! It was incredible to have little Alex Horne in it as we’re all huge fans, we still don’t know why he said yes! To also have some of our lovely fans get involved really warmed our hearts, they bought so much energy all day.”
