Manchester/Liverpool based post-rock six-piece Fruit release the poetically intense and captivating new single ‘Racehorse Deathwatch’.

Having built a reputation for their unique, experimental and evocative writing style, Fruit have played packed out shows across northwest, Sheffield, Leicester and at Brixton’s iconic Windmill. Making a sound which brings a blend of dissonance, noise, and poetic lyricism, the band capture a sound which they describe as “like a morose and angry John Cooper Clarke fronting Mogwai”

Produced by 2 time Mercury nominated producer Shuta Shinoda (Spiritualized, Ghostpoet, Hot Chip, Daughter), the new single highlights this sonic approach, bringing a yearning, hypnotic and uneasy sense of angst. A driven, multifaceted and experimental soundscape of angular guitars, off kilter time signatures and yearning spoken word vocals, the result is a rich 4 minute track which jumps between intricate picked riffs and explosions of fuzzy noise.

Talking about the track, lead singer Josh explains:

“‘Racehorse Deathwatch’ is our fourth single. The track was recorded in a day at Hackney Road Studios with acclaimed producer Shuta Shinoda (Ghostpoet, Spiritualized. Mastered by John Webber at Air Tight Studios (MF Doom, Echo & the Bunnymen).

Thematically focussed on punishment and retribution, the lyrics are in part inspired by the work of poet Samuel Taylor-Coleridge and Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov. Musically, the track is inspired by bands such as 37500 Yens, Faraquet and Slint. Throughout the song time signature changes are disguised by angular, dissonant guitars. The end product is a claustrophobic and heavy-hitting 4 minutes with stern overarching message: ‘Never kick a gift horse in the mouth’.”

Having gained early support across radio shows in Manchester, including Fuse FM, Atomic Youth, and Is This It? Fruit has quickly gained traction, gaining tastemaker press coverage and playing notable venues like Night and Day Café, Hallamshire Hotel, Windmill Brixton. Packing out their first headline shows at Dreambags Jaguar Shoes, Band on the Wall and Fuel, the band have opened for some renowned names acts such as Automotion, Martial Arts, and Otala.
