FLO had a standout moment at the 30th anniversary MOBO Awards, taking home Best R&B/Soul Act during a star-filled night at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena. The South London trio, made up of Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer, kicked things off with an energetic performance of their latest single Leak It before accepting the award.
Clearly caught in the moment, the group admitted they had not prepared a speech, making their reaction feel even more genuine. They used the opportunity to celebrate the bigger picture, proudly saying that UK R&B and girl groups are making a strong return.
Since forming in 2021, FLO has quickly built momentum. Their breakout track Cardboard Box in 2022 brought them widespread attention, racking up millions of streams and earning a Brit Awards Rising Star nomination. Their debut album, Access All Areas, released in 2024, pushed things even further, securing a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album and marking a major milestone for a British R&B group.
This latest MOBO win adds to their growing list of achievements and reflects the impact they have made in a short time. Over the past year, they have taken their music across the UK, Europe, and the US, working with artists like Kehlani, GloRilla, and Kaytranada while delivering strong live performances, including appearances at major events and intimate sessions.
FLO’s success also comes at a time when British R&B is gaining fresh momentum. Their rise, alongside other emerging acts, highlights a renewed energy in the scene and a growing global interest in the sound.
With this win, FLO continues to establish itself as a key voice in modern R&B, blending nostalgic influences with a confident, forward-looking style.
