Rising Irish post-punk-rockers Basht. release the explosive new EP ‘Bitter & Twisted’, May 9th via Lab Records.
Following opening for Wunderhorse, Been Stellar and bdrmm, the Richard McNamara (Embrace) produced 6 track release showcases the bands most complete work to date.
A studio duo but live quartet, Basht. have already built a feverish fanbase which has seen them tour across Ireland and the UK. Across ‘Bitter & Twisted’, the band showcase a keen ear for both high energy, intense musicality but also raw, emotive and still accessible songwriting.
Moving between moments of Post-Punk and others which land more in the realms of indie-alt-rock, the band offer a rich sense of depth and contrast. Sprawling yet well constructed guitar riffs dance from biting modulation tinted clean tones, to fuzzy distortions as punching drums and grounding bass pull the tracks forward with a driving purpose. Topped with the stylistic, warmingly gritty lead vocals, the tracks deliver poetic yet pointed lyricism through angsty delivery, urgent spoken word and deceptively catchy melodies.
Speaking about the EP, the band explain:
“Bitter and Twisted is a personal project that drags a lot of uncomfortable emotions into the light. I wanted to explore the messier side of being human, the pain we cause, the pain we carry, and how those two often get tangled. These songs are a reflection of my own struggles with identity, control, love, and the damage we sometimes mistake for connection.
This EP isn’t easy listening but it wasn’t meant to be. It’s a snapshot of emotional extremes, of the parts of ourselves we don’t usually say out loud. Bitter and Twisted is my way of confronting all of that loudly, honestly, and without looking away.”
Having already built a feverish hype around their live presence, Basht. are already earmarked as one of the most exciting new Irish bands with coverage across the likes of Dork, Hot Press, Nialler9, Notion, Ones To Watch, GoldenPlec, RTE and Amazing Radio (B-List) to name a few. With the release of the new EP on the horizon, the band are set to take things to another level as they prepare to head out on tour across the UK and Europe.
