In the boundless universe of music, there exists a constellation of artists whose melodies and lyrics transcend time, touching hearts and souls with their heartfelt expressions. One such captivating musician is Kristi Jacques, an indie singer-songwriter whose journey through the world of music has been defined by unwavering passion, resilience, and unyielding love for the art of songwriting. With her enchanting compositions and soul-stirring vocals, Kristi has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her listeners, weaving a tapestry of emotions through her melodies.

Kristi Jacques’ love for music began at an early age, an undeniable calling that seemed to flow through her very veins. With a voice that exudes warmth and sincerity, she was drawn to melodies and lyrics that resonated deeply with her soul. As a child, she found solace in music, using it as a means of expression during moments of joy and times of adversity.

Growing up, Kristi’s passion for music only intensified, leading her to explore various musical instruments and styles. She embarked on a journey of self-discovery, immersing herself in pop, country, and rock, each genre leaving a unique imprint on her musical identity. As her love for music grew, it became evident that this wasn’t just a fleeting hobby—it was an unyielding passion that would shape the course of her life.

In this exclusive interview, we have the privilege of delving into the essence of Kristi Jacques’ musical journey, from her early inspirations to her current pursuits as an independent artist. Born and raised in a world that embraced the arts, Kristi’s love for music was ignited from a tender age. Growing up in a family that nurtured creativity, she was surrounded by the symphonies of life and found solace in the harmonies that filled the air.

Can you tell us about your journey as an indie musician?

It is a rather long and winding road; one that went in a completely different direction for a couple of decades. But I finally found my way back to my love of music. What inspired you to pursue a career in music? I don’t think I ever intended to pursue it as a career, but rather something I just enjoy. That being said, it is now the only thing I do. While I am not an accomplished guitar player by any means, I enjoy songwriting, singing, and recording. It feeds my soul.

How would you describe your unique style and sound as an artist?

My sound is a bit all over the place right now. I have been influenced and inspired by multiple artists/genres/styles so all of that comes through. I’m a little pop, a little bit country at times, with a hefty dose of rock. What sets you apart from other musicians? Perhaps it is my late start. I never thought I would be living
my dream at my age.

Could you share some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an indie musician and how you overcame them?

The biggest challenge is actually trying to stand out. In a time when there are over 100,000 songs added to Spotify each day, with home studios being so affordable and user-friendly, anyone can do it. So that can be hard to navigate. I don’t think I have overcome that challenge as of yet, but I keep working on it.

What is your creative process like? How do you approach songwriting and composing music?

I don’t really have a true process. When I write lyrics, I rarely sit down to just write. Lyrics have woken me up in the middle of the night. Some days I have a phrase in my head, a word, or sometimes an entire song that I have to write down. I should probably be more focused
and deliberate when it comes to writing, but I tend to wait for inspiration. I write mostly the lyrics and the music/melody is usually done by a co-writer. I love collaboration. I love working with different people, learning from them, and getting better because of them. I have had the privilege of working with some incredible musicians in that regard.

Are there any particular themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music? What inspires your lyrics?

My lyrics are usually about experiences I have had in my life, my struggles – especially my recent health struggles. I also write about things that I really care about. Causes that are important to me, like in my song Scorched Earth. It really varies.

What are your long-term goals as an indie musician? Where do you see yourself and your music in the next few years?

My biggest goal is to just get better. I want to become a better songwriter, a better guitar player, a better singer. The more I write, the better I get. As for my health issues, I hope to get my lung transplant soon, get a stronger voice again, and finally be able to get out and perform these songs live. That is a huge goal of mine. I know that I am strong and that it will happen.
