Warner Music Group Launches New Affiliate in South Asia to Tap into Emerging Markets: Warner Music Group has made its latest move in the south Asia region, launching a Warner Music South Asia affiliate focused on recorded music in countries including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The news follows WMG’s January partnership deal with Giraffe in Pakistan, which it described at the time as “a new A&R source” for the major label.
Early in 2023, WMG also bought a majority stake in Indian music company Divo, whose catalogues include Tamil-language music that is popular in Sri Lanka.
“These are exciting markets with brilliant artists who historically haven’t had the opportunity of plugging into the global music industry. That’s all set to change,” said Jey Mehta, Warner Music Asia’s newly-appointed managing director (pictured).
“With more than 400 million people, and very important and dynamic diasporas, these are sizeable markets that the industry is only just beginning to tap,” added WMG’s president, emerging markets Alfonso Perez Soto.
