Tinvis is back with their latest single, Echo, the second release from their highly anticipated debut album, Texnia, set to arrive in the summer of 2025 via Mama Manaña Records. Written during a time of constant travel between California and Texas, Echo captures the feeling of being caught between two places—always moving, yet never quite belonging.
Texnia marks a milestone for tinvis, the musical project of songwriter Joel Daniel, whose years in the Davis/Sacramento music scene have shaped a distinctive blend of indie rock influences. The album was made possible by an arts grant from the City of Davis, CA, through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Fund, a program that has since contributed over $50K to local artists.
For this record, Daniel collaborated with an impressive lineup, including producer Max Hart (The War on Drugs, Katy Perry, We Are Scientists), guitarist Luke Reynolds (Guster, Sharon Van Etten, Brett Dennen), and drummer Eric Gardner (Tom Morello, Melissa Etheridge). Much of the album was recorded in Austin, Texas, at Ramble Creek Studio with Britton Beisenherz (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Will Johnson, Little Mazarn), bringing together a mix of indie rock textures and raw storytelling.
Blending elements of contemporary Bob Dylan, vintage Neil Young, and the atmospheric depth of Wild Pink and Radiohead, Daniel’s songwriting also draws inspiration from modern voices like Phoebe Bridgers, Ex:Re, Flock of Dimes, and Adrianne Lenker. The result is a collection of songs layered with melancholy, nostalgia, and quiet resilience—echoing the vast landscapes that shaped them.
Beyond the music, Texnia is a testament to the power of community-driven support for the arts. What started as a $5K grant has grown into the Davis Independent Music Initiative, distributing over $70K to local musicians. As the industry shifts and independent artists face new challenges, Daniel remains an advocate for sustainable music communities.
Echo is available now on all streaming platforms, offering a glimpse into the sonic journey of Texnia. Stay tuned for more music and a deeper conversation about reclaiming creative space in a changing industry.
