The Tempted – Passions & Misdemeanours: The Tempted, the iconic alternative rock duo, are back with their highly anticipated new album, Passions & Misdemeanours. This 13-track record takes listeners on a thrilling journey through a genre-defying soundscape, blending alternative rock, blues, and synth-pop influences into a rich and dynamic listening experience.
Mixed across two continents, Passions & Misdemeanours was meticulously crafted, with tracks mixed by Gunnar Smari Helgason in Iceland and Ross Owen Campbell in the United States. The album was mastered in New York by Campbell, delivering a polished yet raw sound that highlights The Tempted’s signature artistry. Special thanks go to Shug Brankin, whose powerful basslines add depth and texture throughout the record.
Adding to the excitement, the album features guest appearances from legendary musicians. Former Simple Minds keyboardist Mick MacNeil brings his iconic touch to the project, while disco diva Mary Kiani lends her powerhouse vocals to select tracks, elevating the album’s sonic diversity.
For fans of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Foo Fighters, and Matchbox 20, Passions & Misdemeanours delivers an expansive blend of alternative rock infused with bluesy grit and synth-pop flourishes. The album also nods to the sounds of 1980s icons like Tears for Fears and Elbow, paying particular homage to Simple Minds.
The Tempted—comprised of founding members Brian Callaghan and Michael McDonagh—first came together in 1990, with Callaghan writing over 20 songs that were recorded in a small home studio using a mix of 1/4” tape and early digital recording technology. Their demos, recorded in Glasgow with Ross Campbell and Shug Brankin, caught the attention of major labels, including Island Records. While record deals never materialized, the duo’s musical bond remained strong.
By 2021, both Brian and Michael had released solo albums, and their paths converged once again through collaborations that reignited their passion for The Tempted. Over the next two years, they reworked old songs, refining their sound and breathing new life into their music. The result is Passions & Misdemeanours—a record that showcases their growth, creativity, and unwavering dedication to their craft.
With this long-awaited release, The Tempted prove that time has only sharpened their artistic vision. Passions & Misdemeanours is not just an album—it’s a testament to resilience, reinvention, and the enduring power of great songwriting.
