Telebox – Shadow Of A Heart: Following opening for NewDad and Fat Dog, Galway rising alternative quartet Telebox release new single, ‘Shadow Of A Heart’ (23rd May)
Blending atmospheric shoegaze with a sprawling alternative-rock-come-post-punk intensity, Telebox have been building a reputation as one to watch with coverage across tastemaker magazines, support from editorial playlists on DSPs and national radio alike.
The new latest single, ‘Shadow of A Heart’, marks a bold step forward, embracing a richer sound that reflects the band’s musical evolution. Melodic, dark and atmospheric, the track floats elegantly through its unpredictable structure. Bringing fuzzy guitar tones, melodic vocal melodies, driving drums and grounding bass, to create a soundscape which brings an ethereal atmosphere while retaining a sense of energy and urgency.
As comparable to The Smashing Pumpkins as it is to Been Stellar, The Murder Capital and at points The Stone Roses, the band’s sound celebrates the influence of 90s alt-rock whilst bringing a more current flare.
Talking about the EP, the band explain: “Shadow of a heart is an insight into the destructive nature of addiction and alcoholism, showing the decay of the person themselves physically and morally as well as the effects it has on their relationships. It’s about hurt that doesn’t pass, deep rooted wounds that can swallow a person before they’ve realized what’s happened. Musically, we wanted to capture the frantic mind of an active addict and the underlying urge for escape that echoes in their head, the screaming for release. Lyrically, we aimed to convey an insider’s perspective of witnessing that person suffer in loneliness, being judged by others who don’t know their story.

The song was recorded in Ballyvaughan in the heart of the Burren with Daithí Ó Dronaí. The stillness of the small village gave us space to focus on the emotion of the track without distraction. The studio we recorded in was quite a small home studio in Daithi’s back garden which made for a very hands on session where we had a lot of control. In the recording process we wanted to ensure there was an emphasis on keeping the track as raw as possible, full of emotion and embracing imperfection.”
Telebox have made a name for themselves both as a touring band across the UK and Ireland as well as gaining acclaim from national press and national radio alike. With support from the likes of Hot Press, RTE, Clash, Notion, Ones To Watch, Louder Than War, Radio X, Galway Advertiser, Connacht Tribune, This is Galway and Abyss Magazine, Their tracks have featured across Spotify editorials, as well as receiving airplay on Radio X, Sirius XM, 2FM, RTE RNAG, Flirt FM, Dublin City FM (Tilt), Future Hits Radio, and RTE 2XM.
