GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER return with “Bread (butter version),” the soulful first single from their upcoming album butter, out May 16. Featuring legendary Brazilian artist Seu Jorge, the track reimagines the title cut from their 2024 album BREAD, now infused with lush, acoustic textures and heartfelt cross-cultural collaboration.
butter marks a bold creative shift for SOFI TUKKER, diving deep into the world of Brazilian music—embracing MPB, samba, bossa nova, and bolero. The album, recorded entirely in Brazil with live instrumentation, allows the duo to explore a softer, warmer sonic palette, one that reflects their artistic alter ego through more organic soundscapes.
“Bread (butter version)” captures this essence beautifully. It’s a bilingual duet where Sophie Hawley-Weld sings in Portuguese and Seu Jorge responds in English—a spontaneous language swap that adds to the song’s charm and intimacy. “He looked at me with such sincerity and thanked me for the opportunity,” Sophie recalls. “He has one of those once-in-a-generation voices.”
Crafted in collaboration with top-tier Brazilian musicians, butter represents SOFI TUKKER’s most musically adventurous project to date—drifting away from their signature high-energy dance tracks in favor of jazzy, emotionally rich rhythms.
In 2025, the duo will showcase this new chapter on major stages, including BottleRock, World Pride, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Their global impact continues to grow, bolstered by high-profile collabs with Kygo and J Balvin, fashion partnerships, and their ongoing work with nonprofits supporting environmental and social justice causes.
With butter, SOFI TUKKER prove once again they’re unafraid to evolve—inviting listeners into a deeper, more soulful space while celebrating the vibrant heart of Brazilian music.
