Projective – Motions: Following a wave of critical acclaim for their first two singles including repeat B-List placements from Jazz FM and plays from BBC Radio 6 Music, Rising Irish Neo-Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop band Projective return with the radiant new single ‘Motions’.
Recorded with Kealan Kenny (Youth, Pa Sheehy (former Walking on Cars), Niall McCabe, TOUCAN, Allie Sherlock), ‘Motions’ perfectly encompasses the band’s sound; shifting from swelling keys and elegant soulful vocals, to jazzy splashes of brass to a groove driven hip-hop mid section.
Projective’s musicianship shines bright across the track as swing heavy drums, warming bass, layered keys and bright guitar create a rich and melodic backdrop. Topped with the band’s stylistic trio of vocals, whose delivery glides from the soulful melodies and well placed harmonies, to chilled rhythmic rap and back again.
Talking about the single, the band explains: “Motions is a track where we really wanted to pay homage to the legendary sounds of Neo Soul and Jazz Rap. We were constantly referencing artists like The Roots and D’angelo throughout the writing and recording process of the song, and we wanted to mix our own modern sound with the kind of groove and feel that you might find on those iconic late 90’s records.
We all love the female led hooks that were so abundant in the rap music of that era, and we wanted to try our own version of something like that. We wanted it to be laid back, but catchy and sonically beautiful. The way we stacked the vocals with all 3 singers on the chorus felt very important to the sound we were going for.”

In their first year as a band, Projective has achieved significant milestones, concentrating on perfecting their live shows before releasing material. Having opened for the likes of Monjola and Aby Coulibaly in live performances, Projective also headlined multiple shows across Ireland, selling out venues and building a strong local following. The band have also gained a wave of critical acclaim across the likes of DMY, Hot Press and Atwood Magazine as well as repeat spots on Jazz FM’s B-List, and radio play from RTE 2fm, RTE Pulse and BBC Radio 6 Music (Craig Charles). The band have also been listed among District Magazine’s ‘Future Of Irish Music Class Of 2025’.
Having sold out a series of headline shows across Ireland in their first year of gigging, including Cork Opera House’s Green Room, the band have built a reputation as one of the best new live bands on the scene. With appearances at the Everyman Theatre for Cork Guinness Jazz 2023 and Chamomile Garden Dublin with the likes of Jordan Adetunji and Strandz, the band continue to build momentum with their second release, out Feb 13th.
