Patoranking -Kolo Kolo Ft Diamond Platnumz : Nigerian singer Patoranking is back with a new song called “Kolo Kolo,” which features Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania. The Yung Willis-produced happy Afrobeats banger is the first song from Patoranking’s upcoming fourth album. It’s also his first new music since “Celebrate Me” in 2021.
This music video was directed by Dammy Twitch and shot in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Nigerian actress Nancy Isime plays the love interest and has Patoranking going “kolo kolo,” which is a Nigerian word for “mad” or “crazy.”
Papooranking and Diamond Platnumz are two of the biggest music stars in Africa. They work together on “Kolo Kolo.” The two artists have more than 23 million fans on Instagram and more than 2.4 billion views on YouTube between them. Their last joint effort, “Love You Die,” from 2017, has over 60 million views on YouTube and another 20 million streams on big DSPs.
The song starts with a sultry horn tune that sets the mood for Patoranking and Diamond Platnumz to sing love songs to their lovers in Nigerian Pidgin and Swahili, respectively. Patoranking and Yung Willis work together again on “Kolo Kolo.” Yung Willis created “Celebrate Me,” which won the Best Recording of the Year award at the 15th Annual Headies Awards in Atlanta. At this year’s Headies, the first time the famous African music awards show was held in the U.S., Patoranking also won Best Reggae/Dancehall Album for 2020’s “Three.”
Patoranking is one of the most versatile acts in African music. To many, he is many things. International reggae star whose dancehall hits can be heard from Nigeria to Jamaica. His work with top African artists like Tiwa Savage on “Girlie O,” Wande Coal on “My Woman, My Everything,” and Sauti Sol on “Melanin” has made him an Afropop star all over Africa.
Diamond Platnumz is one of the most famous recording acts in Africa. He is best known for making East Africa’s Bongo Flavor sound popular with songs like “Inama” and “African Beauty.” His music got over 1 billion views on YouTube in 2021, making him the first singer from sub-Saharan Africa to do so. He joins Patoranking on “Kolo Kolo” right after being a star on Netflix’s hit show Young, Famous, and African, which was just picked up for a second season.
Patoranking is currently finishing up his fourth record, which doesn’t have a name yet. It will be out early next year through a new deal between his own Amari Musiq label and the distributor The Orchard. As a brand ambassador for Hennessy, he was recently invited to the Hennessy family home in Cognac, the Château de Bagnolet. This is where he started making the album.
