Pop singer-songwriter Oli Barton shares the buoyant new single ‘Day And Night’.Capturing a strikingly modern, vibrant pop sound that blends a vivid guitar led backdrop with a cheeky sense of humour, Oli’s music captures the excitement and chaos of all of life’s relationships.
The new single ‘Day And Night’ is a prime example of this, capturing a youthful flair through its tongue-in-cheek lyricism. Built on a bright and uplifting backdrop of biting guitars, twinkling synth and tight drums, the track captures a joyous urgency under the infectiously catchy lead vocals. Produced by Alex O’ Donovan (Sea Girls, Lawrence Hart), the single’s anthemic hooks and sharp, playful approach to storytelling shines bright.
Talking about the track Oli shares:
“The lyrics are based on a character that obviously thinks the world of himself but is completely unable to say something romantic to the person he loves; inevitably recalling endless platitudes and cliches. It’s my cheesy love song and something I totally refuse to apologise for.
We were actually set up to record a different track at the studio and in between takes, as I tend to do, I was just doodling on my acoustic and I came up with the riff. Whilst everyone was getting prepared to record this other track, I’d written the verses for Day & Night in about 10-15 minutes… It was all done so quickly and organically but that’s the beauty of it.”
Having started his musical journey busking on local high streets, where he learned quickly what resonates with people (and what doesn’t…), Oli developed his dynamic stage presence and ability to engage audiences. Weaving elements of indie rock and jangle-pop with sparkling synths into his sound, Oli creates a style of alt-pop that is ultimately rooted in live instrumentation and organic musicianship.
Through his released material, Oli has already gained recognition from the likes of BBC Introducing, XS Noize and The Pentatonic. Having shared stages with notable acts like Starsailor and Kid Kapichi, Oli has also played notable UK festivals including Camden Rocks, Hastings Fat Tuesday and Leestock.
The new single ‘Day & Night’ comes as Oli gears up for a nationwide tour in 2025.
