Lucky Iris Returns with Captivating Alt-Pop Single ‘Blowing Kisses’

Lucky Iris Returns with Captivating Alt-Pop Single ‘Blowing Kisses’: Fresh off the back of receiving radio play from BBC Radio 1 (Future Alternative) and Radio X (John Kennedy), as well as making multiple appearances at this year’s The Great Escape, Leeds-based alt-pop duo Lucky Iris is making waves with their latest single, “blowing kisses” (released on July 7th). The track is a taste of what’s to come from their eagerly awaited upcoming EP, “maybe i’m too much,” set to be released on August 11th. With their unique musical approach and lyrics described as a “cotton-candy kick in the face,” Lucky Iris is creating infectious soundscapes that are simultaneously danceable and deeply emotive.

Drawing comparisons to School of Seven Bells but with a fresh-faced youthful edge, “blowing kisses” immerses listeners in a vibrant, ethereal soundscape filled with glitching electronics, vocal samples, and punchy electronic drums, all surrounded by a sea of vibrant analogue synths. The silky, breathy lead vocals glide above the musical backdrop, conveying a melancholic tone and a shimmering sense of ease. The delicate delivery and infectious melodic hooks create a captivating central hook that lingers in the mind. The track was written and produced by the duo themselves, mixed by Richard Wilkinson (known for his work with Adele and Kaiser Chiefs), and mastered by Antony Ryan (Oh Wonder), adding to its polished and ethereal qualities.

Formed during the lockdown, Lucky Iris has quickly gained momentum and garnered attention from taste-maker press outlets such as Louder Than War, Punk News, God Is In The TV, and Gigwise. Their music has also received significant airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, and BBC Introducing Live Sessions, along with support from Amazing Radio. The duo has found themselves featured on notable Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, as well as on the Premier League Official Playlist and Soccer AM’s “ones to watch” playlist.

Lucky Iris made their live debut in September 2021 and have since been building their presence on stage, touring cities like Leeds, London, Liverpool, and many others. They have had the opportunity to support acclaimed artists such as Stealing Sheep, Real Lies, and the Lottery Winners. Additionally, they have graced the stages of renowned festivals including Live At Leeds, Long Division, 110 Above, and most recently, The Great Escape.

With their infectious soundscapes, ethereal melodies, and captivating performances, Lucky Iris is a duo to watch. Their unique blend of alt-pop music draws listeners in with its danceable beats and thought-provoking lyrics. As they continue to navigate the music scene, Lucky Iris is sure to leave a lasting impression on both indie-pop enthusiasts and those seeking a fresh and distinct sonic experience.

Speaking on the track the band share:

“ I overheard someone say; ‘a crush is just a lack of information’, and I just couldn’t get that out of my head – but I refuse to see a crush as just that because it just takes all the fun out of it, doesn’t it?! ‘blowing kisses’ is about having a crush. It’s about that point where it turns into something more, because unlike that stranger implied, the more information you learn about your crush, the more you end up falling for them. It’s about hanging on every word they say, being out and only being able to see them. And when they say your name, that feeling you get each time, it’s like the first time anyone has ever said your name… I guess it’s an ‘if you know you know’ feeling… if you do you’ll understand and if not, know it’s a precious song about being desperate to know what that other person is thinking.”
