Singer-songwriter Leamount’s new album, noneofthisisperfect (deluxe), is a bold and introspective blend of alt-R&B and indie pop that reimagines the sounds of Bahamian legends Joseph Spence and Tony McKay (Exuma) in a contemporary setting. Drawing on the rich but often overlooked musical heritage of The Bahamas, Leamount uses this project to honor his roots while expanding into new production and sounds. Across thirteen individually remarkable tracks, the album explores counterpointing themes —intimate yet vast, tender but unapologetically bold, hopeful yet raw—capturing the duality of life and self-expression.
Recorded over two years, noneofthisisperfect (deluxe) took shape during a moment of realization: art doesn’t have to be flawless to resonate. Embracing imperfection, Leamount offers a refreshingly authentic album, inviting listeners to experience the unexpected depth of Bahamian artistry.
Leamount is a singer-songwriter from The Bahamas whose passion for music has been sparked since childhood. Growing up on a small island, Leamount faced limited opportunities to pursue music professionally, especially as a Caribbean artist creating music beyond the “summer music” sound they are often stereotyped to. He’s faced additional challenges, identifying as a queer man in a culture that does not embrace non-traditional values and identity.
Despite these challenges, Leamount is re-emerging with a renewed commitment to his career, inspired by the global expansiveness of black music in all its depth and diversity. Inspired to create a new cultural landscape with a sound as multifaceted as his vision, Leamount is set on representing his country, heritage, and art on a world stage.
