Nashville’s underground psych scene has a new outfit worth paying attention to. John Condit & The Comedown, led by veteran guitarist and songwriter John Condit, release their debut single “Shooting Star” on May 7th.
Condit is a well-established figure in Nashville’s psychedelic community, having toured the world as lead guitarist in Lilly Hiatt’s band and contributed to her critically acclaimed albums Trinity Lane and Walking Proof, as well as fronting longtime Nashville psych-rock act The Inscape. The Comedown marks a new chapter, and “Shooting Star” is its manifesto.
Recorded live to analog 2-inch tape with minimal overdubs, the track draws on the slow-burn atmospherics of The Verve and the volatile psychedelia of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, building from delicate, glassy textures into towering walls of fuzz.
Condit wrote the track in the aftermath of his solo album Return to the Center and a prolonged period of writer’s block. That record was praised as “a terrific record from a Nashville veteran who put a lot of energy into making something special.” The Third Eye

“Shooting Star is about breaking through the mental and emotional fog that weighs so many down,” says Condit. “It is meant to be a source of light.”
Don’t miss ‘Shooting Star’, out May 7th on streaming services.
