DJ Matrix Returns With “Heat Check”

The original DJ Matrix continues his remarkable comeback with a high-energy new single following collaborations with Egyptian Lover and J.Rocc.

After nearly four decades away from the music industry, legendary electro artist DJ Matrix is turning up the heat once again with his latest single, “Heat Check.” The release marks another major step in an unexpected comeback story that began nearly 40 years after his original breakthrough.

DJ Matrix first established himself in 1986 with the independent release of “Feel My Bass,” a track that became closely associated with breakdancing culture and was used in competitions around the world. Despite the song developing a lasting following, Matrix’s musical journey was interrupted after he entered the US Marines, with the Gulf War bringing his original career to an unexpected halt.

For years, however, his music continued to live on through fans who shared “Feel My Bass” online and kept the track’s legacy alive. That enduring connection eventually led legendary electro pioneer Egyptian Lover to search for the original DJ Matrix and encourage him to return to music.

The reunion resulted in “Hypnotic,” released on August 8, 2025, marking Matrix’s official comeback. He subsequently joined forces with Beat Junkies founder J.Rocc for “Feel My Bass (Reloaded),” a modern reworking of the track that originally introduced Matrix to listeners decades ago.

Built with the dancefloor in mind, the single reflects DJ Matrix’s determination to reconnect with the energy, movement and culture that have defined his artistic identity. Rather than simply revisiting the past, Matrix is using his return as an opportunity to build something new, with plans to release a new single every month through the end of the year before bringing the campaign together with a full album.

His comeback will also be supported by social media campaigns, influencers, live appearances and performances, ensuring that the renewed DJ Matrix movement reaches both longtime supporters and a new generation of listeners.

After disappearing from the music scene for decades, DJ Matrix has returned with something to prove. “Heat Check” is the latest chapter in a story that began in 1986 but, remarkably, never really ended.
