Multi-instrumentalist and composer Delips Apo is set to release his new album Romeo and Juliet on 30th June 2026. The project blends infectious Afro pop rhythms with contemporary African sounds, marking a fresh chapter for the veteran Ghanaian artist.
Delips Apo, a dedicated musician who has devoted his life to music, created the album in his recording studio in Accra, Ghana. He plays keyboards and guitar on stage but is proficient on almost all instruments. For this release, he set out to craft a dancehall track for the dance market. Starting with drum beats, bass lines, synth riffs, organ solos, percussions, and other rhythms on the keyboard, he brought the vibrant track Somemu Yie to life.
The song, performed in the local Ghanaian language Twi, explores relationships taken for granted, delivering the message that failing to treat a partner well may result in losing them. Delips Apo handled the singing and composition as a solo project, enlisting paid rappers to add toasts. He also produced a video tailored to the dance scene and live performance energy.
Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Delips Apo is an international African artist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer, and singer. He began playing music at age 16, has worked with over 15 bands, and has led or formed three of his own. His career has taken him across seven African countries, with notable breakthroughs including recording his first album in London with his band Delips and the Godfathers. The album, released by CBS in the early 1980s, achieved significant success in Europe and Africa. He later released the album DADADY, which reached number one on the African charts at Stern’s Records, and the single I Can Feel the Groove, which charted in the UK. Additional independent releases include Hula Celebrations via CD Baby and Dideo via DistroKid.
Delips Apo’s current work fuses western and African rhythms with atmospheric synth waves, creating contemporary African music. A versatile creator, he composes across genres including funk, soul, Latin, highlife, zouk, mapouka, blues, cultural and traditional music, world music, pop, rock, reggae, and dancehall. He has developed original genres called Ritual Fusion and Afro Afro, which he looks forward to sharing with the world. The artist, known uniquely as Delips Apo from a childhood nickname, has performed to packed venues with his band KUTASHI in Freetown, Stockholm, and Copenhagen.
With Romeo and Juliet, Delips Apo partners with Ditto for promotion, aiming to build on his extensive catalogue of unreleased material and bring his distinctive sound to new audiences.
