Coachella 2024 Takes Over Fortnite: A Digital Spectacle Unveiled: This year’s Coachella music festival has solidified its digital presence with YouTube livestreams and NFTs, and it’s now making its triumphant return to the virtual realm of Fortnite for the third consecutive year.
The 2024 partnership boasts four key components. Firstly, Coachella is taking over the ‘Jam Stage’ within Fortnite Festival, the musical rhythm game embedded within the Fortnite universe since its inception in December 2023.
Players can anticipate encountering iconic Coachella landmarks such as the towering Ferris wheel, alongside tracks from festival performers like Blur, PinkPantheress, Bleachers, Eslabon Armado, and Peso Pluma.
Additionally, the festival’s renowned ‘Escape Velocity’ astronaut sculpture has been reimagined as wearable outfits available for purchase in Fortnite’s in-game store. These festival-themed virtual items will be accompanied by emotes featuring artists like Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter, with headliner J Balvin also receiving his own exclusive range of in-game items.
Thirdly, Coachella is introducing its very own island within Fortnite, meticulously crafted using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite tool. Modeled after the festival’s new Sahara Tent stage, this island will host a variety of activities, including mini-games and special appearances from artists like Grimes and DJ Snake. Furthermore, there will be a Coke Studio ‘Remix Room’ and other music creation features for players to explore.
Finally, viewers tuning in to watch performances within the Sahara Tent on Coachella’s YouTube livestreams will be treated to augmented reality enhancements powered by Fortnite maker Epic Games’s Unreal Engine.
This collaboration signifies the ongoing evolution of the relationship between Coachella and Fortnite, which initially began with the introduction of virtual items in 2022 and continued with the launch of ‘Coachella Island’ in 2023.
