Chicanes Announce New Single Fray and Debut Album Something Beautiful.Norwich alt-rock band Chicanes return with ‘Fray’ (June 6th), the final single to be taken from the upcoming debut album Something Beautiful, due for releasedJune 13th. Produced by two-time Grammy Award winner Adrian Bushby (renowned for his work with Foo Fighters, Muse, U2, and Placebo) the single represents a bold evolution in the band’s sound.
Praised by producer Bushby as “the song will take Chicanes around the world.”, ‘Fray’ gives another taste of the explosive yet considered alt-rock sound across the upcoming album. Transitioning from delicate, haunting verses, into a shoegaze-laced chorus and a climactic, crushing outro, the track is a layered and immersive expression of grief, shaped through a combination of sonic experimentation and raw intensity.
Opening with a glitchy, strummed guitar line, the track quickly escalates with pounding drums and haunting lead vocals. As it unfolds, fuzzy guitars weave through melodic textures, driving the momentum toward a soaring yet restrained chorus.
At the 2:30 mark, the mood darkens with a heavier, more intense drop, shifting the atmosphere dramatically. The track culminates in a powerful, cinematic outro—both unrelenting and immersive.
Talking about the single the band explain: “The writing of the track was inspired by Thom Yorke’s Hearing Damage and Loathe’s Sad Cartoon. We really wanted to blend some ethereal and atmospheric textures with a sense of energy and raw intensity.
Thematically the track explores the pain of loss and emotional disconnection.”
Formed in Norwich, Chicanes have been steadily building momentum with their hard-hitting yet emotionally resonant sound, earning support across BBC Introducing Amazing Radio, and Cambridge 105’s New Music Generator to name a few. Known for their electrifying stage presence, Chicanes have sold out multiple shows across East Anglia.
The band are set to headline Voodoo Daddy’s, Norwich on June 20th, joined by Fleas and AJQJ. With more shows, interviews, and visuals planned for 2025, the band are preparing to take their sound beyond the local scene and onto the national stage.
