Independent singer-songwriter and producer, Cataleya Meadows will release her second dark-pop single, “SKIN IN THE GAME,” on October 2, 2026. Following her debut single, “MALICE,” the track offers the next glimpse into the dark, cinematic world of her forthcoming album.
“SKIN IN THE GAME” examines the moment when ambition becomes obsession and the pursuit of perfection begins to consume the person chasing it. Its lyrics move through bruised knuckles, blinding stage lights, invented fantasies and the absence of a safety net, treating the body itself as the final stake. “I wanted to write about the point where trying to become better turns into sacrificing parts of yourself to the work. Perfection begins as something you control, but eventually it starts controlling you.”
The song’s tension builds towards a spoken-word bridge centred on control, surrender and transcendence. Intimate verses expand into a restless, high-stakes chorus built around the defining line, “I always put my skin in the game.” Meadows begins each song by imagining a scene, story or entire world. She transforms that vision into lyrics, finds its melodies and chords at the piano, and then builds an arrangement that carries the same atmosphere.
“SKIN IN THE GAME” emerged through this process, developing from a vivid psychological scene into a song about performance, self-discipline and the dangerous desire to become flawless. Cataleya’s debut single, “MALICE,” released in August 2026, explored buried childhood memories and the ways pain can disguise itself as strength. It received early support from independent radio, music press and numerous playlists. While “MALICE” represented the original wound, “SKIN IN THE GAME” follows what happens next: the attempt to overcome it through discipline, performance and relentless self-reinvention.
Both songs form part of forthcoming album, a developing body of work that explores masks, alter egos, trauma, obsession and the unstable line between self-control and self-destruction.
