Calumet has a classic funk and soul sound and is back with a song and video inspired by Sly Stone and Jimi Hendrix, “Live Love”, out now. Forming in 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona, and having a large presence there, Calumet has played shows with Kool & the Gang, Al Green and George Benson.
Calumet is Eric Mobley (vocal, keyboards, guitar), Jason Mitchell (bass, guitar, vocal), Julian Mitchell (drums, vocal), Kendall Davis (vocal), Michelle Worley (vocal), Larry Brodie (sax), and David Moore (sax, flute).
Jason says, ‘”Live Love”, is about hypocrisy, and generally, the huge number of people who claim to be one thing, while acting in the opposite way. I would include so-called patriots who commit treason, religious people who preach love, but practice intolerance, and citizens who want to stop immigration in a country that was founded on it. Most of this behavior is the result of manipulation by corrupt leaders of all sorts, and the media.”
What can fans take away from, “Live Love”? The ability to question the beliefs they hold in relation to family, religious or political affiliation. The band believes that just because ideas were put in to your head when you were young, doesn’t mean you can’t break free and think for yourself.
The video was shot at Jason’s home. The skeleton is the narrator and represents people’s ultimate fear, death. “Most importantly, the mask has a hinged jaw that moves for singing”, says Jason. “I can take credit or blame for the nonsense going on in this video. Calumet’s singer, Eric Mobley, assisted with the shoot in several ways, including acting and camera work.” Calumet is presently finishing up three more singles to release throughout the Summer. The next release is called, “Something Strange”, and will be released in mid-May. They always try to keep several songs in various stages of development, so they have a few more to finish writing when these are done.
