Having made a big impression for her unique blend of pop, R&B, soul and jazz elements, Azul has built support across national radio, the national press, and DSP editorial playlists. The new single ‘Nada Más Solo’ comes just ahead of Kechi’s anticipated album Celestial Love (March 14th), showcasing the authentic musicality and heartfelt songwriting that characterize the album.
Picked up by acclaimed manager Keith Cooper (known for his work significantly contributing to the success of hip hop, drum & bass, and modern soul movements in both the UK and USA managing and discovering groundbreaking, genre-defying artists including Outlaw Posse, Stereo MC’s, PM Dawn, Jungle Brothers, Aphrodite, Finley Quaye, Jurassic 5, Ian Brown, Just Jack, Truth & Soul, Scribz Riley), Azul has gone from strength to strength.
With influences as varied as Amy Winehouse, Betty Davis and Lauryn Hill, Azul Kechi crafts a sound that blends raw, live instrumentation with her instantly recognisable and strikingly unique, smokey, half sung and half rapped vocal delivery. Encompassing elements of soul, pop and R&B to create rich and compelling soundscapes, across the upcoming album Azul delivers honest and personal accounts of her own life experiences.
Talking about the new single, Azul explains: “‘Nada más Solo’ or ‘Nothing more, solo’ is a song about navigating your individuality – letting go, and fully owning who you are. It’s about embracing who you are and being different without caring what people think or trying to conform to others standards.
In creative industries you have to be bold and take risks, and sometimes this means going down a completely different route to your peers. Music can be a very individual experience and navigating your artistry and breaking into this industry ‘solo’ is a challenge but an exciting one, and this song is about learning to break free of what people expect you to sound like or look like, and to just embrace you. I’m learning more and more in my life to not watch what other people are doing, stop comparing, and to trust your gut. This song is all about taking your own path in life: doing things independently, no one telling you what to say or do, nothing more, just you, solo.”
Azul has previously garnered support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music (Huey Morgan, Craig Charles), Jazz FM, BBC Radio London, Earmilk, DMY, C-Heads, Notion, 1883 Magazine and a whole host of Spotify Editorial playlists (New Music Friday, Fresh Finds UK & IE, Chill Rnb 2022 among others). Also starting to cut her teeth as a live performer, Kechi was one of only a select handful of artists from around the World to be invited to perform at Musexpo, the Global Music Industry discovery forum for emerging artists, in Los Angeles.
With a growing hype surrounding her music, Azul prepares to release her dazzling debut album ‘Celestial Love’ in the coming months.
