Andrew Pattie, a multifaceted musician hailing from Scotland, embodies a diverse range of roles—multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, guitar tutor, choir leader, and session musician—with over a decade of professional experience in each domain.

Born into a rural Scottish upbringing where music served as a beacon amidst the quietude, Andrew found early inspiration in his father’s eclectic record collection. From Free Jazz to Romantic composers, prog rock, and The Beatles, his musical horizons expanded beyond the mainstream sounds of the mid-90s, a time before widespread internet access. These formative years shaped Andrew’s penchant for esoteric and underground sounds, sparking his desire to create music from a young age.

Andrew’s journey into music began with playful experimentation, armed with a Casio keyboard and a Fisher-Price tape recorder. Collaborating with his brother, they crafted whimsical “Radio Shows” blending nonsensical interviews with rudimentary compositions—a pivotal start that would profoundly influence his future musical endeavors.

His formal music education commenced with the clarinet, initially navigating through school lessons and standard exercises. Yet, it was his ability to pick out melodies by ear, sparked by Jorge Ben’s ‘Mas Que Nada’, that hinted at his emerging musicality. This early exposure to Brazilian Jazz and Bossa Nova laid a foundational groove in Andrew’s musical landscape.

Transitioning into high school, Andrew’s musical path veered towards electric guitar, influenced by the burgeoning rock and metal scene among his peers. Technological advancements of the early 2000s, including a pirated copy of Steinberg Nuendo 1.2 from his music teacher, propelled his journey into multi-track recording on the family computer—a significant upgrade from his childhood tape recorder.

Supportive yet slightly bewildered by the growing array of instruments in their home, Andrew’s parents witnessed his expanding musical arsenal. From acquiring a battered Premier Olympic drum kit for a jar of peanut butter to investing in a bass guitar and an 8-channel mixer from eBay, Andrew’s DIY ethos paved the way for his debut self-release, ‘Alkaline GM Crops Against’, in 2003. This marked the genesis of a prolific period yielding albums like ‘Long While for Meat’, ‘Devil Boy’, and ‘The Magic Muffin Band’, each meticulously crafted with artwork and production.

In 2007, Andrew relocated to Glasgow, where his musical trajectory took flight. Drumming for solo artist Richard Mailey at renowned venues like King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut catapulted him into Glasgow’s vibrant music scene. Collaborations followed with indie rockers Velcro Quartet and the formation of his band, Honey and the Herbs, which dominated his creative focus from 2008 to 2016. Self-releasing EPs and a full-length LP, the band flourished within the Scottish music festival circuit.

Recording at Glasgow’s Green Door Studio for Honey and the Herbs brought Andrew his first major breakthrough when engineers Emily Mclaren and Stuart Evan recognized his instrumental prowess. This led to a session with The Amazing Snakeheads, where his saxophone talents caught the attention of band leader Dale Barclay, swiftly propelling Andrew into the spotlight as a touring member.

As a core member of The Amazing Snakeheads, Andrew embarked on extensive UK and European tours, sharing stages with luminaries like Jack White. Despite the band’s meteoric rise, internal tensions led to a premature disbandment after their debut album.

Undeterred, Andrew resumed his role in Honey and the Herbs, refining their sound with elaborate compositions and securing headline shows and festival slots alongside BMX Bandits. The band’s debut album, ‘Gloaming’, underscored Andrew’s evolution as a songwriter and performer.

Andrew’s musical journey further intertwined with Mercury Prize nominee C Duncan, touring extensively and supporting ELBOW across the UK. A pivotal connection with Duglas Stewart of BMX Bandits solidified Andrew’s role as a songwriter and producer, culminating in collaborative LPs and singles, including 2024’s ‘Dreamer’s on the Run’.

Amidst his professional collaborations, Andrew continued to nurture his solo repertoire, culminating in his debut album, “REPAIR”, released on US indie label Exquisite Noise. Composed during moments of introspection and mental health challenges, “REPAIR” reflects Andrew’s journey of self-discovery and emotional resilience.

His latest single, ‘You Are’, epitomizes Andrew Pattie’s introspective artistry—an indie synth-pop anthem exploring themes of self-acceptance and societal expectations. Mastered by Hifi Sean Dickson, the track blends West African guitar influences with vibrant synth textures, encapsulating Andrew’s ongoing musical evolution.

Reflecting on his musical odyssey, Andrew Pattie states, “Music has been my channel for navigating complex emotions and abstract thoughts. It’s a form of self-repair, a means to communicate what words often cannot express.”

As he continues to carve a path in the music industry, Andrew remains committed to creating music that resonates deeply with listeners, leaving an indelible mark through his heartfelt compositions and visionary soundscapes.
