Ally Evenson – The Line (Music Video): Indie-alternative singer-songwriter Ally Evenson is back with “The Line”, a delightfully offbeat new single that blends country twang with the pulse of drum & bass, and yes, it’s just as wild and catchy as it sounds. Released via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records and premiered on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show, the track marks a bold and unexpected turn in Evenson’s already adventurous musical journey.
Produced by longtime collaborator nydge, “The Line” began as a tongue-in-cheek experiment. “It started as a joke,” Evenson admits. “After we made it, we realized it was actually super rad. So it became less of a joke but still kind of a joke. It’s a country D&B song about intrusive thoughts!”
The track’s playful energy is paired with a surreal, body horror-inspired music video that leans into Evenson’s love for bold visuals and off-kilter storytelling. “The video is almost like a prequel to my debut album BLUE SUPER LOVE,” she explains. “I love body horror. I love acting. I joked about eating the blue hat I wear all the time and thought, what better way to switch eras than by literally vomiting it up?”
That unexpected blend of humor, discomfort, and sincerity is something fans have come to love about Evenson. From her roots in Port Huron, Michigan to making waves in Detroit’s indie scene, she’s carved out a space that’s equal parts emotional honesty and sonic experimentation. With past projects like In My Dreams, You Laugh at Me and her breakout EP Not So Pretty, she’s earned praise from outlets like Pitchfork and Pigeons & Planes.
Now, “The Line” sets the stage for a bold new chapter. Nothing is off-limits, and everything is up for reimagining. Whether you’re here for the genre mashup, the bizarre visuals, or the pure creative chaos, one thing’s clear: Ally Evenson is in a lane of her own, and she’s having a blast driving it.
