PinkPantheress is marking the one-year anniversary of her acclaimed mixtape Fancy That with the release of a long-awaited music video for fan-favourite track “Girl Like Me,” adding a fresh visual chapter to one of her most inventive eras yet.
Directed by Lauzza, the video opens in a dreamlike talk show setting featuring British television presenter Davina McCall, before quickly shifting into a vivid, fast-moving world that reflects the track’s hypnotic rhythm and unpredictable energy. The result is a surreal blend of pop culture nostalgia and internet-era aesthetics, perfectly aligned with PinkPantheress’ signature style.
The release comes at a high point in her career following a widely praised debut at Coachella Festival. Her performances were seen as a major step forward in her evolution as a live artist, with critics highlighting her growing confidence on stage and her continued ability to merge genres in unexpected ways. Rolling Stone described her set as proof of “an artist transformed,” while still suggesting she is only beginning to fully explore her potential.
Her Coachella sets also stood out for a series of surprise guest appearances, including Thundercat, Dev Hynes, Janelle Monáe, Zara Larsson, The Dare, and Ninajirachi. The performances also included appearances from cultural figures such as Meg Stalter, Slayyyter, Horsegiirl, and Manon, while actor Tyriq Withers added a narrative twist by portraying Romeo in a stylized onstage segment.
Originally released in May last year, Fancy That marked another bold step in PinkPantheress’ artistic evolution. Co-written and produced alongside collaborators including aksel arvid, Count Baldor, Oscar Scheller, phil, and The Dare, the project expanded her signature blend of UK garage, drum and bass, alt-pop, and electronic influences into a more expansive and globally resonant sound.
Since its release, the mixtape has become her third project to surpass one billion Spotify streams, further cementing her status as one of the most influential voices of the internet-pop generation. Its expanded remix edition, Fancy Some More?, also helped extend its reach, featuring 22 reworked tracks from a wide range of international collaborators.
One of the era’s defining moments came with “Stateside + Zara Larsson,” which propelled PinkPantheress to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. The achievement made her the first English female artist since Adele to top the chart with Easy on Me. The track has since surpassed 500 million streams and became her seventh UK Top 40 hit as well as a Billboard Hot 100 entry.
With “Girl Like Me,” PinkPantheress continues to expand the Fancy That universe, proving that even a year later, the project’s creative momentum is still unfolding and reshaping her already distinctive path in modern pop.
