I decided to rewrite parts of the song, and in about three days, I had a new version. It was a blessing in disguise – this track ended up being so much better than the original, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
“Walls” is an emotionally charged song that delves into the all-too-familiar experience of wanting someone you can’t have, whether due to distance, misunderstandings or simply the other person not reciprocating your feelings. The chorus poignantly captures this sentiment: “You built them so high, it’s on your shoulders I want to cry” and “There’s nobody else that I’d love until there’s nothing left.” It’s a relatable message that resonates with anyone who’s ever felt the sting of unrequited love.
Donnelly describes “Walls” as a hard-hitting pop-rock track driven by powerful synths and violins, giving it a fuller and more fierce sound than his previous releases. “I’ve kept some pop-punk elements that you may recognize from earlier songs, but I’ve added new elements to give it a fresh and intense feel,” he says. “I’m really proud of how this one turned out.”
