Amid TikTok’s contentious efforts to bypass Merlin and negotiate directly with independent labels, Meta has quietly secured its latest renewal agreement—not with independent labels, but with a major player: Warner Music Group.
According to Billboard, this deal encompasses various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Horizon Worlds, Threads, and WhatsApp. Additionally, it was reported that WMG artists will receive undisclosed “promotion and marketing support” as part of the agreement. The two companies will also collaborate and continue discussions on generative AI content across Meta’s platforms. Both Meta and Warner Music Group have confirmed the news.
The duration of the new agreement has not been disclosed. The previous renewal took place in August 2022, which suggests that we might anticipate the next renewal around autumn 2026.
