Waithaka’s work shows how dedicated he is to making timeless music that speaks to a wide range of people. His diverse discography, which was released under his own label Waithaka Ent, includes music from many styles and shows how versatile he is as a producer and composer. His important first record, Odes by Queens (2020), the collaborative project BLK2541 (2020), and his album with Zimbabwean artist MJ Wemoto, Moshi (2024), are some of his most important works. Each of these projects has made him more well-known as an innovative and important person in the music world.
Adding to his already amazing discography, Waithaka’s most recent work, Soul’d Duets, is a masterpiece in R&B/Soul production. The record has a captivating mix of smooth rhythms and melodies that show Waithaka’s skill at making sound-rich works that flow together perfectly.
Each artist on the record was carefully chosen to work with the others, combining their individual styles into a seamless whole that keeps listeners interested from beginning to end. “I Surrender,” the album’s lead song, features the beautiful vocals of Zaituni Wambui and the smooth saxophone notes of award-winning saxophonist Kimbassax. It perfectly captures the soulful essence of the album.
Waithaka Ent’s influence goes beyond his own projects. As an executive producer for a number of well-known Kenyan artists, Waithaka plays a key part in their careers. He was in charge of producing three EPs by Kwame Rĩgĩi: Rugendo, Malkia, and Cama Wendo.
He also produced Ayrosh’s first EP, Murasta. Five of Wangechi’s nine tracks on the EP Don’t Consume If Seal is Broken show off his production skills even more. Waithaka has also worked with well-known artists like Mutoriah, Chemutai Sage, and Serro, as well as foreign acts like Giggz, an engineer nominated for a Grammy, Kaysha, a Congolese-French musician, and Chris Deshield, winner of BET’s 106 & Park All-Star ’09.
His music is based on the soul and R&B sounds he grew up with in the 1980s, which he says are important to him. That’s how his sound shows who he is, and he’d rather let the music speak for itself. Although Waithaka is celebrating this big event, he is still devoted to his motto: “Music is Life & Life is Music.”
