Belgian rock heavyweights Triggerfinger return with their brand-new single ‘Stars’ (September 26 via Sony Music / Hufter) and announce a 24-date European tour.
Fronted by Ruben Block (vocals, guitar) and Mario Goossens (drums, vocals), with Geoffrey Burton (Grace Jones, Iggy Pop, Misia) joining on guitar for live shows, the band is back to reclaim the hunger that made them one of Europe’s most explosive live acts.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Triggerfinger have opened for The Rolling Stones at Brussels Summer Festival, toured the UK and Ireland with Thin Lizzy in 2012, and achieved enormous success on the continent with their impromptu cover of Lykke Li’s ‘I Follow Rivers’. After closing out their Colossus album tour in 2019, the band announced a sabbatical following 20 years of relentless touring. That pause stretched longer than expected as the pandemic hit and bassist Monsieur Paul departed, but the desire to create and perform never left. Now, Triggerfinger are driven once more by what they describe as “the hunger to be on stage, to play music together, to feel those first two chords hit the right notes and witness the magic that transforms three individuals into one.”
Capturing a refreshed spin on the guitar-driven sound that has earned them a feverish fanbase across Europe, ‘Stars’ delivers a high-energy soundscape powered by pounding drums, fuzzy guitar tones, and irresistibly charismatic vocals. As the track unfolds, layers of guitar, bass, and synths weave together with sharp production, balancing a radio-ready polish with a tight, punchy edge and a psychedelic flair that keeps the energy surging throughout and allows the vocal melodies to retain an anthemic quality.
“This song is basically about hope,” says vocalist Ruben Block. “I wanted to talk about intergenerational differences. How every younger generation needs to find their own way, navigating through everyday life, find a purpose, regardless of what other generations think. Where it might be easy to highlight what we don’t understand and regard it as the wrong way to go, I thought it more interesting to write an encouraging song, putting some trust in younger people, even if they chose different paths and ways to walk them, even if we don’t always understand or agree with them.
The lyric could also work in the other direction, looking from an adolescent point of view to an older generation”
Ruben and Mario traveled once again to Los Angeles, where longtime producer Mitchell Froom pushed them out of their comfort zones and into new creative territory. The final mix came courtesy of Tchad Blake, with Froom noting: “From the early demo’s the song already had very cool elements interacting with each other, the driving bass, the vocal hook of the chorus, but it’s full potential revealed itself with Tchad’s mix. Not exactly sure what he did, but we were sure happy about it!”
More than twenty years into their career, Triggerfinger continue to evolve as musicians and as people, but the adrenaline is the same: the rush of stepping on stage, the tension before the first note, and the electricity of locking in with the audience. ‘Stars’ is a powerful reminder of that union, and the beginning of a new chapter for a band that still thrives on raw energy, reinvention, and connection.
