Arriving immediately on the heels of her COLORS Show performance, Trouble, “Maitama” is a follow-up to her earlier hits “Little & Legendary”.
“Maitama” leans into the South African house sound where Teni’s unique and honeyed vocals entwine with the sounds of the long drum; a frequent feature of Amapiano. Teni layers her native tongue over the contagious pulse on this song, accompanied by rippled baselines and high-pitched piano notes.
The tune has guest vocals from South African rapper Costa Titch and multi-award-winning singer Chicco as well as Lagos, the very own mayor of Nigeria, singer Mayorkun.
Named after a lush hamlet in Abuja, Nigeria, “Maitama” transports Teni from her village to start fresh adventures; her ultimate destination is unclear but always notes her growth along the way.
